The Lead Mechanical Engineer II is responsible to lead investigations involving customer problems and drives to root cause, enhances the current system designs and processes, and designs/develops/documents new products. This role will offer the opportunity for engineers to refine their technical knowledge on a variety of tools for design, simulation, reliability, and tolerance analysis as well improve their ability to work cross functionality across the entire Cepheid business.

The role will be an on-site position in the Hardware Engineering organization based in Bengaluru, IDC, India as a part of the Mechanical Engineering team.

As part of this position, you will be able to:
• Design, develop and verify next generation instruments. Continuously document progress during concept, technical feasibility, design & development and verification phases of the product development cycle.
• Design and develop complex electro/optical/thermal mechanical components and assemblies with great attention to DFM, reliability, cost, and human factors.
• Solve complex engineering problems, perform empirical research (writing and running test procedures), data analysis, interpretation and reporting of results and findings.
Write and publish Design Change Orders (DCOs) of engineering drawings and Bills of Material (BOMs).
• Co-ordinate with Core Team to control projects timelines, scope, risks, and issues. Collaborate cross-functionally with Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, NPI, Quality, Supply Chain, Regulatory and Customer Care.

The job necessities are:
• Bachelor degree or more in Mechanical Engineering or other related field. Master’s degree preferred.
• 5+ years of responsibilities in developing new products, preferably in a regulated environment including diagnostics, medical device, life sciences, or biotechnology industries.
• Experience in 3D CAD software, preferably in SolidWorks. Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T and stack-up tolerance analysis software.
• Knowledge of injection molding design. Working knowledge of CFD and FEA simulation tools, preferably Ansys.
• Design of manufacturing and reliability fixtures. Carry out practical prototyping using machine shop equipment like 3D printers, laser cutters, lathes, drills, etc.

Bonus points would be having prior experience in:
• Specifying, validating, and testing engineering requirement specifications. Writing test protocols and authoring dFMEA’s.
Working with suppliers on DFM, enhancing design, and lowering costs.

Requirements
Design, develop and verify next generation instruments. Ongoingly record progress in concept, technical feasibility, design and development and verification stages of the product development cycle.
